I’m definitely a mixture of INTP and ISTP, I mostly relate to INTP with how I view things etc, but I find that what doesn’t fit with in INTP is taken care of with the ISTP. It makes sense, at least to me,  since certain situations would call more upon sensing and vice versa. When I took the test I’m only 3% more of an N then an S, so it’s virtually 50/50. Though I would still classify myself as an INTP on the surface (mostly to keep it simpler, since it’s more like a 60/40 split based on type summaries), unless I’m delving deeper into myself and nitpicking.

ISTP’s are crafters while INTP’s are the architect. INTP is concerned with creating the plan, or blueprint, then leaving it to others to achieve it. While the crafter is the one who does the leg work, which is where I find the overlap for myself.

INTP’s are viewed as lazy where ISTP’s are apparent doers. However, there’s a bit of a gray area here. If the INTP is interested enough in something then they will peruse it tenaciously and then lose interest once it’s been figured out. ISTP’s take things apart and assess it from every possible side and stick it out till the end. I know I can be pretty lazy myself, but I’m not adverse to doing what needs to be done.

Many sites say that once the proper solution is found, the INTP is done and content only knowing he’s right and not proving it. ISTP wants the proof so without a shadow of a doubt their answer is correct, which is exactly how I feel about that.  It’s not just enough knowing I’m right; I need the proof regardless if I share that with others.

ISTP’s dislike theories and prefer the hard facts — which I also do prefer, given the situation. Even though, like the INTP, I do enjoy theorizing on certain subjects, I’m still inherently aware of the facts and proof that make the theory just a theory.

Any one else have a similar overlap and/or thoughts?

Yes. I think you’ve written it well. Depending on what I’ve been doing and experiencing, I can test to be INTP or ISTP or INTJ. Most often it is INTP. I’ve been told that the varying results simply means you are well-balanced in those areas.

  4. zxlynn answered: Me! Try taking cognitive function test, if your Se is way behind like I do, probably you’re an INTP…
